In a bold and unfiltered interview with Teen Vogue, Vivian Wilson—daughter of billionaire Elon Musk—has broken her silence in a stunning takedown of her estranged father, calling him a “pathetic man-child” and declaring she doesn’t “give a f*ck” about him.
The 19-year-old, who legally changed her name from Xavier Musk and publicly cut ties with Musk in 2022, has now taken that distance one step further—by shredding the world’s richest man in a viral conversation that has social media reeling.
“I’m not giving anyone that space in my mind,” Wilson said when asked about her father. “The only thing that gets to live free in my mind is drag queens.”
Vivian, who is transgender, came out publicly in 2022 and made headlines after filing to change both her legal name and gender, stating that she no longer wanted “to be related to my biological father in any way, shape or form.”
In the Teen Vogue interview, she candidly reflects on the estrangement and the political storm that has swirled around both her identity and her father’s increasingly controversial persona.
“The Nazi Salute Sh*t Was Insane”
One of the most striking moments in the interview came when Wilson addressed a recent viral moment involving Musk that many interpreted as a Nazi salute. Wilson didn’t mince words: “Honey, we’re going to call a fig a fig, and we’re going to call a Nazi salute what it was. That sh*t was definitely a Nazi saluteThe crowd is equally to blame, and I feel like people are not talking about that. That crowd should be denounced.”
Wilson also took a dig at Musk’s online presence, describing right-wing social media culture as “cringe.” When asked about the quality of political posting by conservatives, she replied, “They’re not funny. You have to be funny. Most of them have the charisma of a soaking bathrobe.”
A Childhood in the Shadows of Excess
Despite her connection to enormous wealth and global recognition, Wilson paints a different picture of her upbringing. She described Musk’s behavior as immature and emotionally damaging, recalling a period of feeling silenced and isolated.
“When I initially did the whole thing, when he came for me, the Jordan Peterson interview, that was the most cathartic moment of my entire life,” she said, referencing Musk’s public interactions with Peterson, a controversial figure in trans discourse.
“I had all this pent-up energy,” she continued. “I had wanted to speak out for so long after being [essentially] defamed in a book, after being doxxed.”
When asked whether she feels afraid of Musk or his power, she laughed. “He’s a pathetic man-child. Why would I feel scared of him? Ohhh, he has so much power. Nah, nah, nah. I don’t give a f*ck. Why should I be scared of this man? Because he’s rich? Oh, no, I’m trembling. Ooh, shivering in my boots here.”
A Strong Political Voice
While much of the interview focused on her relationship with her father, Wilson also made clear that her passions lie in advocacy, not drama.
She spoke forcefully about trans rights, the injustices faced by marginalized groups, and the broader failures of the American political system.
“It’s horrifying what they’re doing, not only to the trans community, but also to migrants, to communities of color, to so many marginalized communities that are being systematically targeted by the new administration and having protections revoked,” she said.
“I’m really trying to do more advocacy on that front,” Wilson added, noting that the so-called “MAGA war on trans Americans” is not just political—it’s personal. “I don’t feel like people realize that being trans is not a choice.”
When Teen Vogue asked about her political ideology, Wilson responded, “I’m a leftist, not a Marxist. I describe myself by the things that I personally believe in and the things that I feel are pretty common sense.” She listed universal basic income, free health care, and the recognition of housing, food, and water as human rights.
“I feel like workers should be fairly compensated for the work that they do, and I don’t feel like wealth should be hoarded by these mega-billionaires who are the top 1%,” she said. “I’ve met some of these billionaires — they’re not very good people.”
Rejecting the Billionaire Class
Wilson didn’t hold back when reflecting on the stark wealth inequality she’s witnessed firsthand growing up in Los Angeles. “You start to wonder, how is this fair?” she said. “There is no world in which people should be owning multiple private planes, private islands, private whatever, while other people are sleeping on the street.”
This perspective, she explained, shaped her values more than any ideological influence from her parents. “Seeing that kind of extravagant wealth firsthand while also witnessing the homelessness crisis—it’s impossible not to question the system.”
Closing the Chapter
To many, Wilson’s statements serve as a powerful rebuke of not just Musk the billionaire, but Musk the father. Her last contact with him, she revealed, was in 2020.
“I haven’t talked to him since 2020. That was almost half a decade ago at this point. Thank God,” she said.
With humor, candor, and unmistakable conviction, Vivian Wilson has carved out her own voice, separate from her father’s shadow. And if her Teen Vogue interview is any indication, she’s just getting started.
