Robson Wade and James Safechuck, who accused Michael Jackson of child abuse in HBO’s documentary Leaving Neverland , are now facing legal action in France.

Michael Jackson's daughter refuses to stand up for her father against abuse allegations
Paris Jackson says it is “not my role” to publicly defend her father, Michael Jackson, against abuse allegations.

Three Michael Jackson fan groups have filed a lawsuit against his alleged victims in France for “slandering his memory” by participating in the documentary Leaving Neverland , the fan groups’ lawyer told Agence France-Presse on Friday.

The Michael Jackson Community – which calls itself the “official fan forum” – along with two groups, MJ Street and On The Line, accused Robson Wade and James Safechuck of “lynching” Jackson (a reference to the lynching of black people by American racists).

The case, which will be heard by a court in Orlean in northern France in July, follows reports that Jackson’s children are also considering legal action against two men who say Jackson abused them when they were children.

Attorney Emmanuel Ludot, who previously successfully sued Jackson’s doctor for causing suffering to fans by giving the legend the drug that killed him, said the groups “want to discredit the accusations of pedophilia” against Jackson.

Ludot said that Wade and Safechuck’s “utterly insulting” allegations in Leaving Neverland had tarnished the memory of the singer, who died in 2009.

The allegations have affected Jackson’s image as well as “his entire fan community,” according to his lawyer.

Leaving Neverland premiered in the US on HBO earlier this month and broke streaming records in the UK.

Several radio stations, from Australia to Canada, stopped playing Jackson’s music after the documentary aired. The Simpsons also pulled an episode featuring Jackson.

French luxury brand Louis Vuitton removed Jackson-themed pieces from a new collection it showed in January, saying it found “the allegations in the documentary extremely disturbing and disturbing”.

Virgil Abloh, the first black designer to head the fashion house, was widely attacked online by Jackson fans for the decision.

In 2014, lawyer Ludot won a lawsuit against Dr. Conrad Murray for causing pain to the legendary fans.

The compensation was only 1 euro (about 26,000 VND) but Murray had to spend four years in prison for manslaughter for giving Jackson a lethal dose of sleeping pills.
