Elon Musk took to his social media site X to claim that “terrorism” was the reason behind a series of Tesla car fires at one of his Las Vegas facilities Tuesday morning.

The Tesla CEO’s one-word outcry came as a response to another post that showed a video of the cars ablaze at around 2:45 a.m. on Tuesday.

Authorities have said that the fires were set intentionally, with the unnamed suspect using Molotov cocktails and at least one firearm, according to KTNV Las Vegas. It has not yet been confirmed how many people were involved in the incident.

Las Vegas Assistant Sheriff Dori Koren stated that five vehicles were damaged and two were set ablaze in what he believes was an isolated, targeted attack.

According to FBI Special Agent Spencer Evans, the arson investigation has transitioned into one led by a joint terrorism task force, stating that “violent acts like this are unacceptable.”

“It’s a federal crime,” Evans said. “We will come after you, we will find you and prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law.”

Musk has faced furious backlash for his role in the Trump administration, particularly as the chainsaw-wielding ringleader for the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which has spearheaded a series of chaotic cuts across the federal bureaucracy.

Many critics have called for a boycott of Tesla—a sentiment Trump addressed in a recent Truth Social post where he referred to Musk’s critics as “Radical Left Lunatics” who “as they often do, are trying to illegally and collusively boycott Tesla.”

“You do it to Tesla and you do it to any company, we’re going to catch you and you’re going to go through hell,” Trump said during a Tesla event held at the White House last week.

Multiple reports of Tesla vehicles being vandalized have surfaced in recent weeks—both nationally and internationally. Las Vegas authorities have told Tesla drivers to “be vigilant but not be fearful” on the road.
