In the middle of the savannah, a man lies collapsed.
Mark Thompson, a 35-year-old wildlife documentary filmmaker.
While filming a pride of lions in the African savannah, he was captured by poachers and left tied to a tree abandoned.
The poachers bound him tightly to the tree and left.
The ropes that tied his wrists and ankles, impossible to break.
He screamed, “Help me!” calling for help.
But the savannah was too vast and his team was at base camp 20 km away.
The first night, Mark trembled as he heard the laughter of hyenas.
The second day, he drank the last drop from his water bottle.
On the morning of the third day, his consciousness began to fade.
Is this the end? That’s when it happened and a massive male lion appeared.
Standing over a meter tall at the shoulder, it was the majestic king of the savannah.
Mark’s heart raced wildly.
Meeting a lion in the wild is dangerous enough, but unable to move.
But something was strange.

The lion didn’t attack.
Instead, it stopped a few meters away and gazed at Mark for a long time.
In those amber eyes, there was no hostility.
The lion approached slowly, very slowly.
Mark closed his eyes.
This is really the end, but no attack came.
When he opened his eyes, the lion wasn’t looking at Mark, but at the ropes binding him.
It sniffed them and suddenly began to growl.
But that growl wasn’t directed at Mark.
It was an angry sound directed at the ropes.
And then Mark noticed this lion had an old scar on its left front leg.
The mark of a trap.
Suddenly, a memory from 2 years ago flooded back.
Two years ago, Mark discovered an injured young male lion while filming.
A poacher’s trap was clamped on its leg and it was dying from infection.
Easy now.
Easy.
It’s all right.
I’m here to help you.
At that time, Mark’s team made a big decision.
We have to help.
It was an extremely dangerous operation.
We’ve cleaned.
Approaching a wild lion meant risking their lives, but Mark couldn’t give up and check him again in a week.
They called a veterinarian and shot a tranquilizer.
We’re going ahead.
disinfected the infected wounds and administered antibiotics.
And Mark stayed by that lion’s side for 3 weeks.
Every morning, Mark went to find the lion, cleaned the wound, and applied medicine.
At first, the lion growled, but gradually began to accept Mark.
After a week, the lion didn’t attack when Mark approached.
After 2 weeks, it comfortably accepted Mark’s touch.
After 3 weeks, it was completely healed.
On the day of departure, the lion looked at Mark for a long time.
Mark could never forget that gaze.
It seemed to say, “Thank you.” And now that very same lion was standing before Mark.
“You remember me?” Mark said with a trembling voice.
I knew you’d come for me, old friend.
Instead of answering, the lion showed him through action.
It began to bite the ropes with its massive teeth.
One strand, two strands, slowly severing the tough ropes.
Mark couldn’t believe it.
Is this really happening? The lion didn’t stop.
It persistently gnawed at the ropes.
the ropes on his wrists, the ropes on his ankles, and even the ropes tied to the tree.
It pulled once, the rope loosened a bit, it pulled twice, the rope loosened more.
The third time, it pulled with all its strength.
Snap! The rope broke.
Mark was finally free.
He could move his body.
Thank you.
Thank you.
You saved my Mark whispered through his tears.
I will never forget this.
The lion looked at Mark for a moment, then turned its head.
It seemed to be on guard.
There was a reason.
From the distance, the laughter of hyenas could be heard.
They were getting closer.
They had caught the scent of an injured human.
The lion immediately stood in front of Mark.
It let out an earpiercing roar.
The hyenas hesitated for a moment, but knew they had the numbers.
They slowly surrounded them.
One charged at the lion’s flank.
The lion struck with its claws.
The hyena flew back.
Another lunged from the left.
The lion twisted its body to block it.
From the right, another one charged.
The lion had no time to rest.
At that moment, three hyenas attacked from behind simultaneously.
One bit the lion’s hind leg.
The lion staggered and then thud.
At that moment, Mark moved.
Stumbling to his feet, he grabbed a nearby rock and threw it with all his strength at the hyena biting the lion.
A direct hit.
The hyena screamed and retreated.
The lion looked back at Mark.
In its eyes was surprise, and gratitude.
In that moment, they were no longer human and beast.
They were true friends who had saved each other’s lives.
The hyenas eventually retreated.
They realized they couldn’t defeat this strange alliance.
Mark needed to return to camp, but it was difficult alone.
He had been tied up for 3 days without water.
But the lion didn’t leave.
When Mark stumbled forward, the lion slowly walked beside him as if escorting him.
10 km, the distance to camp.
One step, one step.
Mark’s legs felt like lead.
His body had reached its limit, but Mark couldn’t stop.
Each time, the lion stopped and waited for Mark.
Its gaze was not impatient.
Just patient, the eyes of a friend waiting.
The sun set.
Darkness descended upon the savannah.
Stars emerged.
Thousands of stars watched their journey.
The savannah night was full of danger.
Sounds from the darkness.
the cries of beasts from afar.
But the lion stayed by Mark’s side the entire time.
Sometimes it walked ahead, checking the path, whether there was any danger, whether the path was safe.
Sometimes it followed slowly from behind, guarding against threats.
Whenever Mark seemed about to collapse, the lion came close and allowed him to lean against its body.
It was warm.
The lion’s body heat enveloped Mark.
That warmth melted Mark’s frozen body and heart.
Mark placed his hand on the lion’s mane, a gesture of gratitude.
They were not human and beast.
They were friends.
Friends who had saved each other’s lives.
Look over there.
Finally, the lights of the camp came into view.
Mark’s team members rushed over.
You’re safe now.
It’s okay.
It’s okay.
Mark shouted.
This friend saved me.
The lion looked at Mark one last time.
Mark knelt down and met the lion’s eyes.
Thank you.
Thank you.
I’ll never forget this.
The lion gently nuzzled its nose against Mark’s hand and then slowly turning around, it disappeared into the darkness.
Kindness transcends species.
Love needs no words.
And true friendship is never forgotten.
